A LACQUERED 'SUZURIBAKO' BOX FOR WRITING UTENSILS, of rectangular form with rounded 'chiri-i' (edges) and 'inrobuta' (flush-fitting lids), covered in black lacquer and decorated mainly in gold 'taka maki-e' depicting a mountainous river landscape with trees and rocks, the interior of the cover with a similar decoration, the base and part of the interior of dense 'nashiji', with ink stone, 20th century, c. 24 x 21 cm
