An auction will be held on 14 March to sell a collection of Native American artworks, including pieces by members of the Navajo tribe, collected by Christina Stenius-Lovén in the period 1958-83 when she was working as a researcher in Arizona. In her free time, Christina assisted with the restoration of old textiles, and through her contact with the Native American people and traders, she purchased jewellery, ceramics and rootwork items. Her collection therefore comprises both old and more recent items.
In addition to this collection, there are also fine examples of ceramic and rootwork items assembled by the Swedish researcher Anders Retzius during his travels in North America around the turn of the last century.
We at Stockholms Auktionsverk are proud to have been commissioned to auction a total of around 150 lots, which are fascinating from the perspectives of aesthetics, culture and history.
