August Strindberg ranks among Sweden’s pre-eminent writers and dramatists, and in recent decades his paintings have also begun to attract much international attention.
Strindberg was tremendously productive. He wrote books, plays, lyrics and articles, and was also a prolific letter writer. He painted, drew and photographed. He was a keen social critic on a wide range of issues. He founded the Intima Theatre, which staged his plays. He carried out scientific experiments and had a keen interest in alchemy. For a time Strindberg served in the National Library of Sweden, and he also worked for Stockholms Auktionsverk on a book
auction catalogue for a book collection of Holdo Stråle entitled: "Collection of foreign and Swedish books (belonging to G. H. Stråle of Ekna) to be sold at auction at Stockholm’s Book Auction Chamber… 1876."
He was also a customer at Stockholms Auktionsverk’s book auctions, both as buyer and seller.
