Some of the highlights of this auction is a beautiful copy of the important ornithological work by the famous French naturalist George-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon, Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux in ten red morocco volumes published in Paris between 1770-1786 (lot 6294), and an extremely rare hand-coloured copy of La Fontaine's fables illustrated by Oudry (lot 6079). This edition is called "One of the most ambitious and successful of all illustrated books" (Ray, The art of the French illustrated book, 5).
We are also offering several interesting works on medicine from a large Swedish collection, many richly illustrated as Bourgery's magnificent anatomical atlas, Traité complet de l'anatomie de l'homme, comprenant l'anatomie chirurgicale et la médécine opératoire... Paris, 1832-54 (lot 6335).
On this auction, there is also an opportunity to acquire many beautiful bindings, amongst others a Parisian binding from the 16th century, together with an atlas by Porcacchi, a rare relief map of Paris by Bauerkeller, photographs from Japan, a poster of Beatles (lot 6206) and much more.
We are also offering some interesting Russian books and manuscripts. One of the highlights in this department is MAGNITSKII, LEONTII FILIPOVICH (1669-1739). Arifmetika; sirech nauka chisliteinaia (Arithmetic, called the computational science). This is a rare Russian work on mathematics which is the first edition of the first work on mathematics printed in Russia, and only the second non-religious book printed in Moscow. The work was published in 1703 and is considered one of the most important books printed during the reign of Peter the Great (lot 6313).
On this auction, there is also an opportunity to acquire a beautiful Russian religious manuscript from the 19th century. The manuscript which is written in church slavonic describes the great feasts and is embellished with ten large illuminations (lot 6457).
Another work of interest is a rare collection of Russian engraved battle plates of the Great Northern War (1700-21) between Russia and Sweden. The engravings are made by l'Armessin and Simonneau after Martin le jeune and are very seldom seen together (lot 6229).
