A Famille-Rose-Enameled Blue and White Bowl, the exterior is decorated with a continuous band of flowering lotus plants rising from a border of cresting waves above the foot, which is encircled by a narrow key-fret band. The interior is painted in underglaze blue with a large lotus flower from which issues four large lotus leaves in the central medallion below a wide band of lotus scroll with similar leaves in the well, Guangxu mark and of the period (1875-1908), diameter c. 18 cm, crack, nick
PROVENANCE:
From the Collection of Professor Thore Gustaf Halle.
Thore Gustaf Halle (1884-1964) was Professor of Paleobotany and Head of the Swedish Museum of Natural History (1921-1947). He was also Doctor of Honour at the University of Cambridge and a member of the Swedish Academy of Science. In 1916-1917 Thore Halle conducted a research expedition to the provinces Henan, Jiangxi and Hebei in China. During that period he purchased several works of art.
