On the reverse side of the painting: a seal of the customs department in Dubrovnik, Kingdom of Serbs, Croatians and Slovenians. (The name of the Kingdom from 1918 to 1929, in 1929 the name was changed to Kingdom of Yugoslavia.)

PROVENANCE
Acquired by the Russian art collector Evgenii Ilich Radchenko during the Great Exhibition of Russian Art in Belgrade in March 1930. Evgenii Radchenko was born on 29 February 1896 in Yuzovko, modern-day Donetsk. He lived in Belgrade from 6 July 1928 until 28 December 1936 and was the first sergeant and
musician of the Royal Guard.
Evgenii Ilich Radchenko was a good friend of the artist Albert Benois, his daughter Maria Tcherepnina and her husband the composer Nikolai Tcherepnin.
Acquired in Stockholm in early 2000s from the relatives of Evgenii Radchenko.
Alexei Hanzen, the grandson of I. K. Aivazovsky emigrated in 1920 to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croatians and Slovenians and lived in Dubrovnik until the end of his life. He is buried in the orthodox Christian cemetery in Dubrovnik.
