Contemporary half calf, partly worn, spine in compartments with red label, damaged at upper edge and lower cover.
Last part title loose, title with partly cut signature and monogram, signature of Karl Wilh. Regnell, dated 1849, on inside of cover togehter with some notes. Some minor foxing and staining.

Edited by Linné (Linnaeus) and published three years after his unfortunate death (he drowned as he fell in one of the canals of Amsterdam) while working with the zoologist and pharmacist Albert Seba.
First edition of this important work which introduced a new system of the description of fish which was also adoptes by Linnaeus in his "Systema". Artedi may be regarded as the father of modren ichthyologi.
