First edition, in Latin, of Bontiu's important and pioneering work on tropical medicine, including the first modern descriptions of cholera, yaws, tropical dysentery, and beriberi. The book is divided in four parts, the first a critique of the Portuguese physician and naturalist Garcia de Orta, the second how to maintain a healthy diet, the third deals with Indonesian medicine, and the last to post mortem observations.
