Contemporary brown half leather, rebacked with brown cloth, new inner doublures and endpapers. Mended in the inner margin of pp. x-xi and 216-217 with cellotape.

Constant Chouvanel (1825-1923), French missionary, architect, carpenter, painter, sculptor, musician, and writer. He composed many books in Singhalese and in Tamil. We are indebted to him for an English-Singhalese grammar, the translation of the whole Bible, a Life of the Saints for each day of the year, the months of Mary, of the Sacred Heart, and a Preparation for marriage, etc.
