Peter Forskål, a Linnean pupil, was a member of a Danish Expedition to the Near East in 1761-1767. Niebuhr was the cartographer to the same expedition, and the only survivor of the group. The collected botanical and zoological specimens of Forskål from Egypt and Saudi Arabia was sent back to Copenhagen.The present work, posthumously published by Niebuhr, describes a large number of Arabian plants for the first time. Linnaeus named one of plants after him, Forsskaolea tenacissima..
