Contemporary limp vellum, worn, upper cover decorated in sepia-tinted ink to a bold scrolling design enclosing symbolic emblems (unidentified), above a large floral motif, lacks ties, some loss of vellum in lower margins of covers, spine lettered as title, old paper labels at head and foot. Lacks first endpaper, last endpaper damaged in lower outer corner. Some marginal notations or underlinings in red ink. Some foxing, some marginal dampstaining. Old ownership marks on front pastedown.

Francesco Guicciardini's (1483-1540) history was originally published posthumouslu by his nephew Agnolo in 1561.
