8:o, atlas oblong 4:o (252x382 mm.). (3), IV-X, (1)-518 pp., atlas printed title and 4 pages of text, 38 lithograph plates (all, 1 darkened, minor foxing) and 2 lithograph folding profiles (all).
Text later half cloth, spine label slightly damaged, atlas contemporary half cloth, worn, loose in upper hinge, first endpaper loose. Text partly foxed and browned, title to atlas with oval name stamp "Carl Georg Sievers". 2 volumes.
F. W. Junghuhn (1809-1864), German geographer and naturalist, considered to be the unsurpassed master of scientific research on Java. The plates depicts mostly volcanos as Merapi, Merbabu, Papandayang, Gunong, Guntur, abd others.
