Folio. Additional lithographed title, 91 tinted lithographed plates including 1 map, Jean Jacottet and others (lacking 8 plates, title foxed and mounted, about 10 plates mounted, a few plates spotted, 1 tear to margin, some dampstains to margins, mostly only slight foxing, mostly marginal).
Original red half morocco, gilt spine, worn and with damages to spine which is loose, upper cover loose, partly loose in binding.

Van de Velde was a Dutch naval lieutenant and surveyor who made two visits to the Middle East, in 1851-1852 and later in 1861-1862. After his first visit, he published the present work which contains views in the Lebanon and modern Israel. The first edition was published in Dutch, Utrecht, in 1854 and translations in English (1854) and in German (1855-1856) were also published.
With views like: Jerusalem, Le Mont Hermon, Les Reservoirs de Salomon, Le couvent de Mar Saba, Akka etc.
