Contemporary brown blindstamped calf, somewhat worn, rebacked to style. Some foxing, some marginal dampstaining at end. Detailed old annotations in an 18th century hand, concerning the Russian Imperial family between 1682 to 1783, on the flyleaves and pastdown. First edition.
John Perry (1670-1732), civil engineer and naval officer, worked in Russia between 1698-1712 with canal and dock building (from 1700 appointed "Comptroller of Russian Maritime Works". The finely detailed map has inset panels charting the most recent developments in inland navigation and an early plan of "The Port of Peterburg".
