8vo in 12o. (4), 1-551, (1), 1-12 ll. (= in all 568 ll). 44 lines. Initials in red or blue. Leaf signed X8 with woodcut printer's device.
Contemporary vellum, somewhat worn, upper cover spotted, spine lettered in ink, later inner doublures and endpapers. Partly some dampstaining, mostly marginal and mostly in outer lower margin or lower outer corner. Leaves 459-460 with burnmark in upper outer margin. Some minor foxing. Some old (near contemporary) marginal annotations and underlinings to text.

After the Fourth Lateran council of 1215 a number of manuals of confessioin was produced. The purpose was the intellectual preparation of priests for an informed exercise of the office of confessor.
The present work was completed by Father Battista Trovamala in the convent of Levanti in 1483. Also known as the "Summa casuum conscientiae" or "Summa Baptistiniana", it was first printed by Nicolaus Girardengus in 1484. In 1489 Trovamala made an expanded and revised edition, the "Rosella Casuum" or "Summa Rosella", first printed in Pavia in 1489 and then in Venice 1495, this edition edited by Giorgio Arrivabeni.
