8vo (156x99 mm). (136), (138, 2 blanks) ll. Lacking 2 leaves signed I 8 and K1.
Richly illustrated with coloured (recent colour) woodcuts of diagrams, spheares etc. including a volvelle with movable parts. Printer's handcoloured (recent colour) woodcut device on title. Title with small repair and some soiling, text partly dampstained, mostly to margins, occasional old marginalia in ink. BOUND WITH:

BEYER, HARTMANN. Quaestiones novae in libellum de sphaera Ioannis de Sacro Bosco, in gratiam studiosae inventutis collectae ab Arielel Bicardo... (Wittenberg, Petrus Seitz, 1550).

Last 14 leaves includes the part title Circuli sphaerae cum v. zonis with handcoloured (recent colour) woodcut, 13 full-page handcoloured (recent colour) woodcut maps, of which 12 double-page and 2 handcoloured (recent colour) woodcut diagrams, incl. one world map. Title with printer's device in woodcut. Some minor dampstaining mostly to margins, some minor soiling and spotting.

Contemporary full blindstamped vellum, party worn and with small damages, lacking clasps and two fittings, spine in compartments. Some old or contemporary notes on inside of covers and on endpapers.

VD 16, J 726 and 727, VD 16 ZV 1449, VD 16 H4781 and Shirley 86 (for Honter). Lacking 2 leaves in the first work and 4 leaves in the second. The colouring is recent.
Second title of Sacrobosco: Libellus Joannis de Sacro Busto, de anni ratione, seu ut vocatur vulgo computus ecclesiasticus... dated 1545 on title.
Sacrobosco (c.1195-1256) probably English, Scottish or Irish scolar, monk and astronomer, famous for his Tractatus de sphaera.
