DANIEL'S "DREAM MAP". Woodcut map of Europe, Africa and Asia (also called the Wittenberg World Map). About 1550.
The map depicts the four beasts of Daniel's Dream. Surrounded by an ornamental border and German text beneath and on verso. Map 115x155 mm, whole sheet 385x240 mm.
Probably from a German bible. This curious map of Europe, Africa, and Asia is to be found in apocalyptic literature originally emanating from Wittenberg in 1530 or even 1529 where one of the first impressions was used by printer Hans Lufft.
