Description des principales pierres gravées du cabinet de S.A.S. Monseigneur le Duc D´Orleans. I-II. Paris (De la Chau - le Blond - Pissot) 1780-84.

Small folio (295x180 mm). Engraved allegorical frontispiece with the portrait of the Duc d´Orleans, 179 engraved plates (of cameos and intaglios), and 58 vignettes by Augustin de Saint-Aubin. Without the 7 additional plates of medallions. Lacking the halftitles. (Portrait with foxing to margins and dampstain to corner, slight dampstains to upper corner throughout in vol 1, title to vol 2 with marginal tear, text with slight foxing).
19th century half calf, spine with black title labels, partly rubbed and worn, split joints, red edges. 2 volumes.

First edition. Cicognara 2801, ´Bella anzi magnifica raccolta´, Cohen and Ricci 542. Without the 7 additional plates of medals.
Images of engraved gems from the important collection inherited by Louis Philippe Joseph, duc d´Orleans (1747-93), which was sold to Catherine II of Russia in 1787, now in the Hermitage.
