RUSSIAN-JAPANESE WAR - PROVENANCE MANNERHEIM. 5 colour woodcuts with scenes from the Russian-Japanese War, between 1904-05. Text in Japanese and English, some numbered.
All woodcuts mounted on boards. Size varies, but about 380x490 (for whole plate). These woodcuts were given to Johan Mannerheim by his brother Marshal and President Gustaf Mannerheim, this is also noted in pencil on verso of the plates.
Together with 2 other japanese woodcuts (340x547 mm) with the same provenance.
Provenance: Gustaf Mannerheim (1867-1951), Baron, Finnish military leader of the Whites in the Finnish Civil War, Regent of Finland (1918-19), Commander-in-chief during World War II, and Marshal of Finland 1942, President of Finland between 1944-46. Mannerheim took part in the Russian-Japanese War and became colonel in 1905.
