Imperial folio (660x490 mm for leaves). Printed title and 142 engraved plates of which 8 double page and including 2 maps (all untrimmed on thick paper, 2 plates with repaired tears [64 and 98], a few plates at the end foxed, partly with slight tears in outer margins, some creases, otherwise only some foxing and dampstaining to margins). All plates loose in contemporary blue marbled boards, lacking spine, renewed with white cloth, worn and with damages.

Plate volume from Denon´s important work on the architecture and art of ancient Egypt, written during Napoleon´s campaign of 1798-1801. He was later appointed director of the new Musée Napoléon (or Louvre) in 1804.
