II, some foxing), folding engraved map (foxed, lacks 1 engraved map "Western half of the Hellespontic Phrygia"), 17 handcoloured aquatinta engravings, of which 7 folding (some minor foxing, offsetting of plates to text, some offsetting of text to plates), 1 engraved plate, 2 engraved plates with music, 2 engraved facsimile plates (foxed).
Contemporary brown calf, worn, cracked and mended in the joints, upper cover to vol. I detached, gilt and blindtooled frames, gilt darkened spines in six compartments, some damages at head and foot. Some foxing. 2 volumes.
Abbey: Travel, 202, Atabey 584 (for the first edition), Blackmer 821 (for the first edition). The first edition also appeared in 1813.
According to Atabey, the plates were made after drawings by the British architect Charles Cockerell and the German landscape painter Jacob Linckh.
