First French edition, plates in second state with plates numbered, published the same year as the original latin edition, and a Dutch one.
The book illustrates Marie of Medici (1573-1642, Queen of France, married to Henry IV in 1600) entering Amsterdam in "procession and triumph", and other celebrations in 1638, after failing in removing cardinal Richelieu from his office in 1630.
From her exile in Compiègne she fled to Brussels in 1631 and from there to Amsterdam. Although in exile, her visit was considered a diplomatic triumph by the Dutch as it lent official recognition to the newly formed Dutch Republic.
