The text is also augmented with an index of deceases treatable with herbs. The illustrations depict over 400 German and 100 foreign plants (including the first description of some recently discovered American plants). This was also one of the first herbals that also recognized the artists for their contributions and whose work influenced botanical illustration for many years.
The drawings were made from life by Albert Meyer, largely based on plants in Fuch's medicinal garden at Tübingen.

Leonhart (Leonhard) Fuchs's (Memmingen 1501- Tübingen 1566), German physician and botanist. The South American genus Fuchsia was named after him.

Provenance: Johan Gabriel Sack (1697-1751), baron, chamberlain and civil servant, owner of the Bergshammar mansion.
The library of Bergshammar (Fogdö in Södermanland, south of Stockholm), was owned by the Sack family from 1705. Part of the large library of about 10.000 volumes was bought by the famous antiquarian firm "Björk & Börjesson" in the 1930's.
