RUSSIA - PERSIA - INDIA. BRUYN (BRUIN), CORNELIS DE. Reizen over Moskovie, door Persie en Indie: verykt met driehondert kunstplaten, vertoonende de beroemste lantschappen en steden, ook de byzondere dragten, beesten, gewassen en planten, die daar gevonden worden: voor al derzelver oudheden, en wel voornamntlyk heel uitvoerig, die van het heerlykke en van oudts de geheele werrelt door besaemde hof van Persepolis, by den persianen Tchilminar genaemt... Amsterdam (by Rudolph en Gerard Wetstein - Joannes Oosterwyk - Hendrik van de Gaete) 1714.

Folio (about 328x205 mm.). (8), 1-472, (12) pp. Engraved frontispiece (dated 1711) by B. Picart, title printed in red and black, 1 engraved portrait of de Bruyn engraved by G. Valck after G. Kneller, 260 numbered engraved partly folding plates (on about 110 plates, many double or triple, a few slightly browned, a few somewhat worn in outer margin, a few marginal tears), 2 large engraved folding maps and 34 large text engravings.

Contemporary vellum, somewhat worn, blindstamped decorations, partly mended in the joints, covers somewhat warped, spine in seven compartments (with manuscript title: C. D. Bruyn Reizen II. Deel), red edges (some renovation with new endpapers). Pages 167-168 with mended tear. Some minor marginal dampstaining, some foxing. Bookplate of Gösta Nobel and one other.

With large panoramas of Archangel, Moscow, Astrakan, Persepolis, and others.

Provenance: Gustaf Oscar Ludvig (Gösta) Nobel (1886-1955), youngest son of Ludvig and Edla Nobel, was in Baku between 1914-17 and later took over as Managing Director over Branobel or "The Nobel Brothers Company". The oil company was founded in Baku by his father and the two brothers Alfred and Robert. He and his family had to flee Russia 1918 during the Russian revolution.
