MARIA EUPHROSYNE. Small 4:o (about 205x160 mm.). (16), 1-1132, (6), 1-512 (irregular pagination) pp.
Contemporary black full calf, slightly worn, clasp and fittings (one clasp and strap missing), on both covers the gilt oxidated book-stamp of Maria Euphrosyne De la Gardie, blank spine in five compartments, some damages or mended damages at head and foot, all edges gilt and partly gauffered. Title and first 2 leaves with mended marginal tear. Small hole in upper margin pp. 37/38 with loss of pagination number, pp. 471/72 mended tear in lower margin. Large brown spot inner margin/part pp. 853-870, with some loss of text pp. 861/862, otherwise minor foxing or staining. Initials C.H. in outer margin of p. 576, signature Carin H in inner margin of p. 579, some other minor marginal notations. On inside of upper cover the signature of Carin Horn, and a long annotation regarding the book by Per Hierta 1910, also the library stamp of "Bibliotheca Qvarnforsiana", also Hiertas pencil annotation on first endpaper, verso of first endpaper with signature of Thore Virgin 1932.

Maria Euphrosyne (1625-1687), sister to the Swedish king Karl X Gustav, married to the Swedish count and Lord High Chancellor Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie in 1647.

Provenance: Carin Horn, probably Catharina Horn, f. Lilliehöök (1658-1696), Bukowski's copy (his catalogue 1888), bought by Per Hierta, Thore Virgin, bought at Hiertas auction 1932 (item 905).
