MATHEMATICAL MANUSCRIPT. KOWALEVSKI, SOPHIE (1850-1891). Russian mathematician, professor of Mathematics in Stockholm. "Sur une proprieté du système d´equations différentielles qui définit la rotation d´un corps solide autour d´un point fixe".
Autograph manuscript signed, 11 pages in folio on 11 leaves, written on recto page, with some corrections and additions.
Undated, but first published in "Acta Mathematica", Berlin, Stockholm, Paris, Almqvist & Wiksell, 1890-91, pp. 81-93.

This is the manuscript to the first printing of Kowalevski´s important paper in which she refined the mathematics for which she received the Bordin Prize from the French Academy of Sciences. For this work she received an award from the Swedish Academy of Science.

Sophie Kowalevski (Kovalevskaja, in Sweden called Sonja) was the first major Russian female mathematician, also the first woman appointed to a full professorship in Northern Europe and the first woman to work for a scientific journal as an editor.
She made important contributions to analysis, differential equations and mechanics.
