ATLAS. PITT, MOSES. The English Atlas. Volume I. Containing a Description Of The Places next the North-Pole, as also of Muscovy, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, And their several Dependances. With A General Introduction to Geography, and a Large Index, containing the Longitudes and Latitudes of all the particular Places ... Volume I only. Oxford (printed at the Theater, for Moses Pitt at the Angel in St. Pauls-Church-Yard, London) 1680.
Large folio (c. 600x370 mm for volume). Hand-coloured engraved title (inner margins reinforced), hand-coloured engraved portrait of Charles II (loose), 24 double page engraved maps, of which 12 hand-coloured (not complete, of 44, 1 loose, some browning, some soiling and spotting, mostly to margins, a few marginal tears and repairs, some with folds, text slight foxing, about 10 pages with heavier spotting). Printed title in red and black with hand-coloured vignette of Oxford (some spotting, tear not affecting text), Direction to bookbinder loose.
Contemporary gilt-decorated vellum binding, title on spine "Volume I", green silk ties, lacking one, partly worn and soiled, boards partly warped, first free endpaper loose. With mid-19th century armorial bookplate of James Hunter of Hafton on inside of upper board.

With one World map (Orbis terrarum), North Pole, Europe, several maps of Russia (5), map of Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Livonia, Germany (3), Scandinavia, Finland, Denmark (4) and the plate of the Manner of the Laplanders. Title engraved by J van Mannikhuysen after L. Webbers, portrait engraved of R. White.
