CONTARINI, ANDREA. Letter to Vecellus Count of Portia. Not signed. 11 lines written in Latin on vellum, dated Venice 28 April 1375. Address page. Size c. 200x280 mm. Contarini confirms the count´s letter with the information of the discord between Ludovico and Giacomuzzo da Portia.
No seal. Tears to margins, one affecting text, partly repaired, outer margins browned from tape, some spotting, folds.
Contarini (1300/1302-1382), doge of Venice from 1367-82 and served during the War of Chioggia (between the Venetian Republic and the Republic of Genoa). He libarated Venice in 1379 after the attack from Genua and concluded the peace treaty between Venice and the governments of Hungary, Genua and Padua.
Provenance: Per Edward Gustafsson (1893-1966), Swedish collector. Part of his large manuscript - and autograph collection was donated to the library of Uppsala University Carolina Rediviva.
