Contemporary Italian vellum richly gilt and inlaid, a wide border inlaid with red morocco gilt, in center of upper cover the royal crown and coat-of-arms of Albert, king of Saxony, on lower cover gilt text S.r. Majestät of Albert König von Sachsen, spine gilt in compartments, edges gilt (slightly worn, spine slightly soiled and worn). Royal monogram blue stamp on half title and title.
This famous library catalogue comprises some 5000 entries, starting with a preface by F. von Platners, ending with an extensive register of authors and places. The Platner library is one of the most substantial collections on Italian topography, archeology and history. Today the Bibliotheca Platneriana is still an independent part of the library of the German archeological institute in Rome.
Provenance: Albert, king of Saxony (1828-1902). He was married to princess Carola Wasa, granddaughter to Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden.
Sten Ringselle (1949-2017), Swedish antiquarian bookdealer who in 1992 opened his shop Antiquaria in Gothenburg.
