12 engraved plates, numbered 13-24 (of title and plates numbered 2-24), engraved by John June after Augustin Heckel), plate area (including text) c. 205/210x255 mm., including margins c. 257x390 mm., marginal tears and wearing, partly some marginal browning or dampstaining, sometimes affecting the picture.

The illustrations were copied by Heckel from woodcut illustrations by Jiao Bingzhen in "Yuzhi Gengzhi tu", originally published in 1696. Apparently they are copies of the 23 illustrations i vol. I (the second being on sericulture) of the later Qianlong edition, believed to have been produced in the 1740s. The illustrations show rice growing in its various stages from the initial soaking of the seeds through to the harvesting and treshing.
