Sewn as issued, entirely uncut, contemporary blue wrappers, worn, spine with damages, missing spine label. Some marginal dampstaining. Old annotation on half-title.

The history of Khotan is found on pp. 1-116, it is followed by researches on jade and jasper on pp. 117-239.
The first major effort in any Western language for research, albeit mostly literary, on the subject of jade is found in the present work.
As early as 1820, the French Sinologist Jean-Pierre Abel-Rémusat translated a section of Khotan in the Chinese encyclopedia Gujin tushu jicheng (Collection of Books Old and New)-a vast classified compilation in 10,000 volumes completed in 1725.
