Löwendahl: China illustrata nova. Supplement, 1560.
Marcos da Silva´s (?1511-1591) "Chronicle of the Friars Minor" was originally published in Portuguese in 1557-62.
The present second German edition was translated by Carl Kurtz von Senftenau from the Italian translation by Horatio Diola (Venice 1606). A fourth volume, written by Felix Reineccius, appeared in Innsbruck in 1658.
The work is made up almost entirely of biographies of illustrious men of the order. It is considered to be of great historical value, especially since the original sources to which the author had access have disappeared.
Vol. II pp. 77-84 deal with Giovanni da Piano Carpini´s mission to the Court of the Mongol Khan in 1245-47 and pp. 823-7 with Odoric of Pordenone and his jouney to the Far East 1318-1330.

From the library of Swedish antiquarian bookdealer Björn Löwendahl (1941-2013).
