(26), 452 pp. Engraved portrait, 1 partly folding engraved frontispiece, title printed in red and black with engraved vignette, and 37 partly folding engraved plates, including the folding map "Accurate Vorstellung von Capo Bonae Spei in Africa" [folds, small hole in folding, some spotting to margin] (lacking 4 plates av 41 [2, 4, 23, 41] portrait with some spotting to margins, 2 plates with repaired tears, a few with minor tears to folding,
Contemporary worn half calf binding, gilt spine with red title lable, faded, upper edge damaged. Text with some browning and foxing. Bookplate of the library of Skottorp and the blue stamp of P. von Möller, Skottorp on first free endpaper.

Second German edition, which is more illustrated than the original from 1719. "The natural history section was of considerable value at the time of publication, and there is a full account of the government of the country, with detailed descriptions of various settlements, and a mass of information respecting the habits and customs of the native races" (Mendelssohn).
