8vo (c. 200x120 mm). 1 folding map, 16 engraved plates (1 folding, all, 1 with small marginal tear), with half-titles.
Contemporary half calf, gilt spine with gilt-lettering, red paper on covers, yellow edges (worn and rubbed, inner upper joint split of vol. I). Some slight foxing, last leaf to volume 1 with tear and some loss (no textloss), minor hole to flyleaf, small repair to one leaf. Signature on first free endpaper or inside of cover. Bookseller´s label Librairie Raymond Clavreuil, Paris in one volume. 4 volumes.

First edition. Important work on the history of military medicine. Larrey took part in campaigns in America, Italy, Egypt, Russia and many other countries.
Without the 5th volume, Recueil de mémoires de chirurgie, published in 1821.
