Contemporary brown mottled calf, worn, gilt border, cracked in the joints, slightly faded gilt spine, small damages at head and foot, bluespeckled edges. Presentation copy, inscribed on first endpaper "Right Honourable Lord Keith... from... The Author". Armorial bookplate of Lord Keith.

Provenance: George Keith Elphinstone, 1st Viscount Keith GCB (1746 - 1823) was a British admiral active throughout the Napoleonic Wars.
First edition of an important source on the early history of Prince of Wales Island (Penang) by Sir George Leith, who was nominated Lieutenant Governor of the island and its dependencies in February 1800, and took charge of the Governement on April 20 the following Year.
