Old boards, vellum spine with manuscript title, new inner doublures and endpapers.

Leaf A2 recto contains a "Titulus carminis sinici, characteribus antiquissimis" in an extraordinary full-page woodcut, followed by "Annotata" on A2 verso, "Resolutio figurarum praecedentis inscriptionis, per characteres in lingua mandarina hodie usitatos" in a full-page woodcut with characteres white-on-black on B1 recto, with transcription and translations on the verso and "Annotata" on B2 recto, "Carmen gratulatorium sinicum" on B2 verso & C1 recto, transcription on C1 verso, "Interpres ad literam" on C2 recto, and "Paraphrasta carminis sinici" on C2 verso.
Louise Dorothea Sophie (1680-1705), the daughter of Frederick I, king of Prussia, married Frederick of Hesse-Cassel (who became king of Sweden 1720-1751) in Berlin 31 May 1700. Konrad Mel (1666-1733) wrote the present work at the occasion.
