Contemporary vellum, worn, cracked in upper joint, spine with manuscript title. Endpapers with holes. Extra engraved title, title and first 5 leaves with small damage in upper outer corner. Last leaf with two small holes. Minor foxing. Bookplate of H. W. Struben. First edition.

Wouter Schouten (1638-1704) vividly describes many events of the early 1660s in the East. He sailed from Amsterdam as ship´s surgeon in April 1658, and returned there in October, 1665. During his years of service he visited Sumatra, Java, the Moluccas, Amboina, Celebes, Ceylon, Bengal, and Arakan.
