BONAPARTE, NAPOLEON (1769-1821). Document signed "Bonaparte" as first consul, (DS). One leaf on parchment in large folio (c. 330 x 235 mm). A « Brevet de Sous-lieutenant », an appointment for the citizen Hugues Dufraine, dated Saint-Cloud, "le vingt-cinq fructidor l'an onze de la République" (September 12, 1803).
Partly printed document with engraved vignette at the top, engraved by B. Roger and with paper seal. With a hand written curriculum vitae of Dufraine. Also signed by the war minister Louis-Alexandre Berthier and the state secretary Hugues Bernard Maret.
The document mentions that Hugues Dufraine fought during all campaigns of the Revolution the years 1792, 1793, [and then, the years of the revolutionnary calendar] 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9 in the « West army ». He took a bullett in the arm during the siege in the Luxemburg.
Berthier (1753-1815), war minister in 1804, later a Vice-Constable of France (1808).
Maret (1763-1839), French ambassador, became a minister in 1804.
