8:o (c. 163x97 mm.). (46, lacks last blank leaf), 1-372 (pp. 373-376 bound after p. 382), (2), 379-399, 380-762 (i.e. 382), (88, last page blank) pp. Title with woodcut printer's device, 17 engraved plates, of which 16 folding (complete, some minor marginal dampstaining).
Contemporary vellum, somewhat worn, partly soiled, spine with manuscript title. A few brownspots. Signatures on title of N. Retzius and A. J. Retzius 1792, on first endpaper J. R. Rydberg.
Jacques Rohault (1618-1672), French philosopher, physicist and mathematician, and a follower of Cartesius. The present book was first published as "Traité de Physique" in 1671 and was very influential up to the middle of the eigteenth century.
Anders Jahan Retzius (1742 - 1821) Swedish chemist, botanist and entomologist and father of Anders Retzius and grandfather of Gustaf Retzius.
