Folio (about 500x360 mm.). (6), (i)-iv, (1)-85, (1) pp. 49 engraved plates (of 50, lacking 1 plate, 1 plate with rupture at the platemark, minor foxing and spotting). Most plates are signed as drawn by W. Chambers, eight by J. Gandon, one by J.B. Cipriani, and as engraved by P. Mazell, P. Fourdrinier, F. Patton, E. Rooker, C. Grignion, T. Miller or J. Fougeron.
Contemporary brown half calf, somewhat worn, gilt spine in eight compartments, no spine label, speckled edges.
Minor foxing. Inscribed on the title to "A Treatise..": This Treatise was sent me as a kind Present from the worthy author himself now Sir Will. Chambers architect to his Br. Majesty. Ifvar Kraak" and "Denna bok är gifven åt Hr. Doctor Fjellstedts (älste) yngste son Richardt - Malmö July 1857. Em: Sager".

FIRST EDITION, issue with the French text of Chamber´s Desseins (1757). An influential work by one of the most highly regarded architects of his time. The plates include elevations and plans of houses and decorative structures, also furniture and ornament, costumes and other chinoiserie.
