IMPORTANT WORK ON CAVALRY WARFARE (2). DRUMMOND DE MELFORT, LOUIS - HECTOR (Comte de). Traité sur la cavalerie. Text + plate volume (plates loose in a box). Paris (de l´imprimerie de Guillaume Desprez) 1776.
In folio, 2 volumes (text: c. 437x290 mm., atlas (box): c. 700x520 mm.). Engraved frontispiece by Ingouf, title with large engraved vignette, 11 engraved plates by Dupuis, some double-page, some folding (some small wormholes in margins of 7 plates), 7 engraved vignettes by Van Blarenberghe, some woodcut initials.
Atlas with 32 engraved plates of which 29 double-page, 1 tripple (plate XXV) and 2 quadruple (plate XIV-XV, (complete, plate XXV partly loose in the folding, plate VIII missing small part of lower left corner in the margin, a few small marginal tears, some staining in lower margin, some marginal browning, some foxing and spotting).
Text volume in contemporary brown calf, partly renovated (upper joint, edges of covers, head and foot of spine), some staining to boards, gilt frames, richly gilt spine in seven compartments, red edges. Text with one small burnhole in the beginning, last 3 leaves with some marginal inkstaines, text with mostly minor marginal wormholes.
Plate volume late 20th century brown leather box with gilt armorial coat-of-arms of the family of Bonde of Björnö on upper board (slightly worn, some slight spotting). 2 volumes.

Drummond de Melfort (c. 1721-1788), count, lieutenant-general 1780, served with Moritz von Sachsen and in the cavalry of Frederic the Great.
Provenance: A gift to Lieutenant General count Thord C:son Bonde af Björnö (1900-1969) when he left as Commander-in-Chief of the Swedish Army in 1963. He was promoted General in 1963.
