Small 4:o (about 192x140 mm.). (32), (1)-327, (1 blank) pp. Woodcut figurative title with Aldus device (partly loose in inner margin, side-margins somewhat frayed, title-border partly shaved, some foxing). On the first leaf after the titlewoodcut vignette with the printer´s device of Giorgio Angelieri.
18th century vellum, worn, somewhat spotted spine slightly damaged at head and foot and with worming. Minor foxing and staining, occasional soiling. At the beginning some old underlinings and marginal annotations. First endpaper with signature of Filippo Molinelli 1794, first free endpaper with a dry stamp of a Florentine bookseller. Engraved armorial bookplate without name.

First Aldine and Italian edition, the French original was published in 1575. The first treatise devoted to the history of civilization, the most important work by the French humanist Le Roy. He also discusses technical developments like bookprinting and the compass, pages 275-276 with relation to America.
