Large 4to (303x240 mm.). (8), 120 pp. 29 steel engraved plates (views and some portraits) after Piercy [lacking 1, no. 6 Memphis], 9 wood engravings, folding map of Utah at the end [Richards, F. D., Utah, and the Overland routes to it, from the Missouri river, 1855, c. 290x470 mm.], map with some foxing and soiling, loss of part of inner margin, plates with some foxing, mostly to margins, about 6 with more foxing to outer margin.
Contemporary half calf, worn and rubbed, some damages, covers partly warped, joints partly split, gilt-lettered spine, a few leaves loose. Title and text partly foxed and spotted. Bookplate of Arvid Wallgren.

Rare work on mormon emigration. Lacking 1 view of Memphis.
With scenes of Salt Lake City, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Natchez, Vicksburgh, Kanesville, Missouri river, Chimney Rock, Witches Rocks, as well as portraits of Brigham Young and other elders. The book was first published in parts between 1854 and 1855.
Frederick Piercy (1830-1891, a Mormon convert, conceived this work to convince English Mormons to emigrate to Utah.
