Contemporary brown mottled calf, partly somewhat faded in the margins, richly gilt spine in five compartments, speckled green edges. Minor foxing. First edition.
Louis Léger Vallée (1784-1864), French civil engineer of road and waterway construction, mostly known for his studies of channels and the railways of Paris, Lille et Calais. He studied at l´École polytchnique in Paris about 1800, a pupil of Gaspard Monge and Jean Nicolas Pierre Hachette. In the above work he supplied Monge´s, and applied it for artists, sculptors and architects .
Gaspard Monge, Comte de Péluse (1746-1818), French mathematician, the inventor of descriptive geometry (the mathematical basis of technical drawing), and the father of differential geometry. During the French Revolution he served as the Minister of the Marine, and was involved in the reform of the French educational system, helping to found the École Polytechnique. (Wikipedia).
