Large-folio (532 x 355 mm.). Typographic title, 1 leaf "Avant-Propos", lithograph title with portrait (dated 1828), 3 portraits and 98 tinted lithograph plates, some in outline. Due to paper quality some browning, spotting or foxing on a number of plates (more on the outline plates).
Contemporary half-calf binding, spine gilt in compartments, some wear, minor damages. From the library of of Konrad Prinz von Bayern and with his bookplate and blue stamp on title.
Monumental series of illustrations, chronologically arranged, of Napoleon`s march to Russia in 1812. Albrecht Adam (1786-1862), was a world-renowned and highly regarded painter of battle scenes and horses. In 1809 he was appointed court painter by the Italian viceroy and stepson of Napoleon I, Eugene de Beauhernais. At his request Adam painted a diary of the Russian campaign.
Lipperheide Qc23 (mentions only 94 plates). The work, which is seldom seen complete, was published in 25 parts.
