Engraved extra double page folding title, 1 full-page engraved armorial weapon (on verso of French title), 76 engraved plates (of 81) partly folding or mostly double page (lacking 5 plates [page 221: 1-5], 1 plate defect [page 40], large folding plate in the beginning with repaired tears and spotting, some creases, a few minor repairs, a few with minor damages to margin, some minor spotting and foxing, engraved title with minor spots, small tear to upper part, text with some foxing and partly with minor dampstaining, minor repair to page 165.
Simple 20th century half calf binding, partly worn, redspeckled edges. Some leaves browned, some minor foxing or spotting. Bookplate of Jacob Pontusson De la Gardie on verso of both engraved title and printed title.
Lacking 5 plates, 1 defect.
First German (and French) edition of this famous work on horses and horsemanship. First published 1667. Richly illustrated with plates showing training of horses.

Provenance: Charlottenlund castle in south of Sweden (Snårestads socken, Ystads kommun). Part of the library inherited from the castle of Löberöd, where Jacob De la Gardie (1768-1842) owned a large library consisting of c. 18.000 volumes, which was one of the largest private libraries in Sweden at that time.
