A PAIR OF CHINESE EXPORT POLYCHROME-DECORATED ´NODDING HEAD´ FIGURES, an elderly couple, with painted detachable clay heads weighted with lead to nod, modelled standing with one arm extended, the female figure wearing a green robe with gilt borders over a floral-decorated tunica, the bearded male figure wearing a similar green and parcel-gilt garb decorated with a golden dragon chasing the flaming pearl, late 18th century, height c. 32 cm
PROVENANCE:
Purchased by the Swedish Managing Director and Politician Axel Carlander (1869-1939), and thence by descent within the family.
