STOCKHOLM. TILLAEUS, PETTER (1679-1754). General Charta öfwer Stockholm med Malmarne åhr 1733. Stockholm 1733, but about 1770.

Engraved map with cartouche and portrait of Swedish king Frederic I, explanatory text on the sides. About 1545x1940 mm. Mounted on thick paper and on wooden green decorated hanger rolled. Partly somewhat browned, some minor damages with some picture losses, some creases.

Tillaeus, a cartographer and a city engineer of Stockholm who was commisioned to make a new map with clear blocks in order to make the city safer in case of a fire. The map was first published in 1733 in 12 sheets and engraved by E. Geringius (pupil of J. van Aveelen) and C. E. Bergquist. Geringius also engraved the portrait after a painting by Martin Meytens. A second and slightly altered edition of the map was published in 1770ies and then again in 1897 for the Stockholm exibition.
This edition with the planted trees on Skeppsbron, which were not present on the first edition.
