The bible was given to Swedish archbishop Bertil Werkström in June 9, 1989 as pope John Paul II visited Uppsala, Sweden and also signed by Pope John Paul.
Bible in 8vo (19,5x14 cm), housed in a folio case.
Red full morocco, blindtooled decor and gilt decor of an bies in the corners and on spine. Case in white morocco with the coat-of-arms of pope John Paul II, together with a commentary in red cloth.
Limited edition of 550 copies in arabic numbers, 50 copies in roman numbers only avaliable for the pope and 60 copies not for sale also in roman numbers, this is number P XVI.
The original manuscript, which was written in the 13th century, is owned by Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Rome. With an introduction in German by Giovanni Morello and Ulrich Stockmann.
Pope John Paul (Johannes Paulus II), born as Karol Jósef Wotyla (1920-2005), became the first pope from Poland in 1978 and was declared a Catholic saint in 2014.
