8vo (189x113 mm). Engraved frontispiece by Abraham de Blois after Willem van Mieris. (18), 699, (1) pp. Probably lacking 1 leaf at the beginning. 106 full-page engravings (all, some minor spotting, a few dampstains to margins at the end), woodcut ornaments and initials, printer´s device on title.
Contemporary vellum, soiled and with slightly warped covers, split inner upper joint, traces of label on lower cover spine darkend. Text with some minor spotting. Bookplates of Aug. Lyttkens and Nils Sandberg.

Nissen BBI 859, Pritzel 3991, Hunt 378 (mentions 107 plates). First and only edition. Some libraries mentions 20 ungpaginated pages in the beginning.
The German botanist Paul Hermann (1640-95) made a list of the plants in the botanical garden of the university of Leyden, which was famous for its about 4000 different plants and the leading botanical garden in Europe at that time. Hermann also collected plants in Africa and Sri Lanka which are illustrated in this work and Linné (Linnaeus) based his Flora Zeylandica (1747) on these plants.
